Don't Be An Olaf

My guess is you read the title for this post and you're like WHAT!!!! But we love Olaf! Olaf is amazing! He likes warm hugs and telling all the random facts and being comedic relief. What would we do without Olaf? And, moreover, why would we not want to be like Olaf?
Well, Olaf is great. He is a great character, the most amazing sense of humor from my favorite childhood movie--one that I have probably watched about half a million times.
And taking all that into consideration, I think we can really relate to Olaf on more than one level. Especially when he sings 'This will all make sense when I'm older.' It is easy to think that I will be better, be wiser and more mature the more I age. But I don't think we quite realize that's not entirely true.
I, for one, have, yes, gotten wiser as the years go on. But I believe there is a difference between growing and becoming wiser and forcing yourself to gain knowledge and becoming wise by learning all you can.
Take agency!
Be like the audio says and slay! Slay your enemies, break down their armies!
We, as writers and children of God, cannot wait for knowledge to come to us. We must take action, learn everything we can. We have to grab the wisdom by the neck and say fill me. Fill me with knowledge and learning.
We are the next generation. We have a duty to be better than the last.
I know I wouldn't have grown so much as an author had I not A) become a member of the Young Writers Workshop, B) written as many books and done so much dedicated learning, and finally, C) Made some great writing friends to keep me accountable.
So yes, Olaf, we do become wiser when we get older, but we have to want to become wiser first.
Thank you,
-Claudia
