Just a Little Bit of Light

I was sitting in bed last night, thinking. My eyes were open, staring at the light filtering through my window and door. And I whispered: ‘Thank you, Lord, for darkness.’
I didn’t mean the kind of darkness that’s consuming, that’s internal and broken. I meant physical darkness. The kind of lightless night that is behind my eyelids every time I sleep.
I thanked the Lord for light, for the sun and the way it reflects just enough light for us to be able to see in the dark [sometimes ;)]. Imagine if there was no light, no sun or moon. See, you wouldn’t be able to see anything. There would be nothing to reflect light off of. It would just be a continual circle of darkness.
But even at night, light reflects off the moon, comes from the sun, and descends on earth in a glowing arch (except for the fact that light doesn’t bend unless it goes through something, so that’s more imagery than anything else). Way to go, Claudia. You’re not supposed to be a science teacher!
Annnyways, I think I’ve made it pretty clear that we are never really in true darkness. Say, in the middle of the night, you wake up and you can see. You can see the dark shapes of the doorway and the stair railing (sometimes).
This reflects a little on the seasonal celebration of Christ’s birth. Jesus says Himself that He is the Light of the world (John 9:5). He says that ‘if you follow Him you will never walk in darkness, but will have the light’ (John 8:12). Even in the night, when the sun is not smiling upon the face of the earth, there is light. There is light in the moon, and in your heart. Jessu knew this. He knew there will always be light on Earth.
Do not fear the night, for even though the sun is not here, the moon rules the night (Genesis 1:16).
Stay Faithful,
Claudia
Yes, the darkness of night brings a certain peacefulness.
And as you say, we are never truly in the dark, both literally and figuratively.
Thank you for the imagery and the bible verses.
Enjoy celebrating the reason for the season! 🌟
