January Review

I had an amazing opportunity show up yesterday.

It all began with a comment on social media where I asked the editor if she was a developmental editor as much as she was a line editor. Turns out, yes she was. So I did it. I made an account on this new freelance-finding website and I reached out to her and asked if she would edit my book. She replied right away (imagine my nerves) and said maybe! For a price, of course. *instantly goes off to the little fantasy world in my mind* Well...a cash price. (I know, much less exciting)

But it fell through. The editor didn’t think we would be a good pair and so I've moved on. Sad, I know. But hey!!! I'm still here. I'm still plodding along with my words.

I hit 46k in my novel yesterday too, which is *explosive author happiness* amazing. Also, I'm working on updating this website a bit for the new year! And adding a ‘projects’ space where you can roam the list of books I have written and guess what! I'm even adding a progress report to each book. Every one but my current WIP will probably be 100% but that doesn't take away from it...right?

...

Right?

Also, news flash! It's almost my birthday!!! *throws confetti* I'll be old in a couple of days. I was actually talking to my bestie the other day about how we were once the little kids looking up at the big kids at school, and now we're the big kids looking down at the little kids literally anywhere we turn. Truly fantastic. Celebration is definitely the only way to start off February and this new time in my life, I think. With my writing progressing and my home library growing, there is much to be grateful for *side eyes all the other people and things I have to be grateful for* not just the books...I guess. There is good weather and good friends and good family. Good school subjects (excluding math), good health, and good hearts to be brought into the next month, I suppose.

Oo! Now is also a great time to mention this because *gasps* I did something amazing. I'm working through a read-the-Bible-in-a-year plan and...I finished Genesis today (01/23/25)!!! I'm a little behind my reading of Matthew, but I'll be done that one too. It really brings into perspective how different the teachings of New and Old Testament really were, and also how they coincide. I'm reading this really great Bible study by one of my favourite theologically-sound Biblical teachers, Phylicia Masonheimer, and she also wrote about how to think of the Old Testament prophecies verses how to think of the New Testament promises (her most popular book--the one I am referencing--is called Every Woman A Theologian by Phylicia Masonheimer).

And yeah! That's that! I have read (or am close to finishing) three books this January (not including the one I DNFed) (Also, if you're wondering what DNF stands for, it is an acronym for Did Not Finish). I started off the year with The Otherworld by Abbie Emmons and am currently reading Skyward Book Two, Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. Big surprise, I know. More Brandon Sanderson books.

I am still, on this day, on the hunt for an editor. If any of you know a developmental editor currently needing a good read, it would be fantastic if you would let me know. ;)

Well, goodnight my fantastic readers, I have some lost beauty sleep to reaquire.

Stay Strong,

Claudia

Hi Claudia - There were a variety of interesting topics in this post!

  • Freelance editors! (Is the one you signed up for an 'association' eg. EFA?)

  • Progress report! (Yes, 100%, that would be cool!)

  • Happy Birthday! 🎉

  • Bible-in-a-Year plan! (Excellent!)

  • Old vs. New Testament (Big topic!) GOD IS JUST, LOVING, AND MERCIFUL. It's good that you look for theologically-sound teachers. I noticed that Phylicia Masonheimer talks about DISCERNMENT - this is also very important for Christians. ✝️
