The Blessings of Truth: An Easter Story Part Two

Two days ago, Jesus was dead. He died, a horrible, bloody death to pay for my sins. Jesus was dead for two days.

And He was exactly that. He was dead.

Because it doesn’t matter how you say it. It matters that it happened, and that God never broke His promise.

Part two of The Blessings of Truth:

I was studying the scriptures one day, and I came across Psalm 109 and 110.

The first passage I read was Psalm 109: 6, ‘Appoint a wicked man against him; and let an accuser stand at his right hand.’

Then there was Psalm 110, ‘The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”

The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies!

Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours.

The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.

He will execute judgement among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth.

He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.’

After bookmarking both those passages, I randomly flipped through my Bible, landing myself on Mark. Do you want to know what I read there?

Mark 12: 35-37, ‘And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that Christ is the son of David? David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared,

“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.’ ”

David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?” And the great throng heard him gladly.’

I don’t believe in coincidences. If I did, this would be much less powerful.

Okay, let’s think this through:

From the first Psalm (Psalm 106) we see a promise. We see a declaration. We see David proclaiming that an accuser stands at God’s right hand.

Standing at God’s right hand is the Son of Man. Our accuser knows our wrongs, He knows our sins…He— Hold on a sec’, I’m gonna have to look into Psalm 110 before I go any further.

Overview: blah, blah, blah, enemies as your footstool…blah, blah, people offering themselves freely, blah…the Lord is at your right hand; he w— Let’s stop right there.

‘The Lord is at your right hand.’

The Lord.

Who is the Lord? (Hint: that is a question that will be on the test. You should know this!!! *snaps fingers while waiting* *realizes that I can’t snap my fingers so I just made a fool of myself* Ah hem!!

Back to the point: Jesus is our accuser.

Definition of an accuser is: ‘a person who claims that someone has committed an offence or done soemthing wrong.’

That’s the thing! We have done something wrong! We all have. Every. Single. One of us. No matter how hard you try, sin will always come. Sin will always find you.

So what did God do?

John 3:16, ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.’

And,

Matthew 20:28, ‘“…even as the Son of Mancame not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”’

I don’t know what other proof you need! God sent Jesus to die, and to rise on the third day.

God sent Jesus to accuse us of our sins, but also to show us a way out.

God sent Jesus to show us our wrongs, giving us a way back to the light.

Psalm 110 also quotes: ‘The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.’

Jesus is coming back. Just like after those days, just like after he died. He is coming back.

Here’s another verse to think about: Numbers 23: 19-20, ‘God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

Behold, I recieved a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.’

God is no man. God does not lie, He does not change His mind. God sent Jesus, knowing that on His day of wrath, Jesus would shatter the kings and take His disciples back to heaven with Him.

God did not change His mind then. He did not promise something, then lie.

If God lied, there would be nothing left. Because God has already promised everything.

Even Jesus knew that God would not lie. Jesus quoted David.

Jesus quoted David, a man that lived during a time much farther away than you’d think. Jesus knew what David said, before it was even written.

God did not break His promise then. He did not break His promise when Jesus died.

God will not break His promise now.

Jesus will come back. He will shatter the kings, He will create a new Heaven and Earth.

Rising from death is one thing. Rising to create a new world is another. But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that we are under His protection, under His wings. We are saved by His grace. It deosn’t matter when Jesuss rises again, it just matters that He will.

Because God does not break His promises.
