Sometimes it doesn’t even hurt.
Sometimes it doesn’t look like it should draw tears.
Sometimes it doesn’t feel right.
And you cry anyway.
You don’t always cry because it hurts on the outside, sometimes it’s just stretched so far on the inside that anything can send you over the edge. Sometimes it just takes a little piece of pain to make it all come out.
“It’s not fair.”
“It’s not supposed to be like this,”
“It’s not right.”
You’re wrong.
Yes, crying is right, we were made to cry, we were built to have emotions. So it’s okay to cry.
If you feel like I’m just trying to console you…don’t worry, I’m trying to console myself too. I’ve felt all those feelings before, the anger, the hurt, the pain.
So I started writing.
I started building a world where I could express my pain with my main character. Yeah, maybe I made it a whole bunch worse for her, but it felt all the same in my head.
And I found peace with that. I found my cliffhanger happy ending. I’m always on the edge of that cliff, holding onto that small string. It’s holding me up, my prayer, and hope, and fear.
Then I’ll go, ‘what does the Bible says about tears and sadness?’
Psalm 126:5 ‘Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.’
Revelation 21:4 ‘He will wipe away every rear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore for the former things have passed away.’
Psalm 42:3 ‘My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”’
James 1:12 ‘Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.’
2 Corinthians 7:10 ‘For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.’
And listen especially to this one:
Ecclesiastes 3:4 ‘A time to weep, a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance;’
God understood!
He listens to your struggles and knows when you are sad. God did not put these verses in the Bible to remind you just how much saddens there can be in the world, but He did it to remind you of the greatness that lies just behind the pain.
Grief is a terrible thing, it bogs down your chest, it makes you feel like you can’t breathe.
It hurts.
Sometimes you don't even know why you’re crying, and it still hurts.
Mourning is not something to be ashamed of, it is something to praise God for.
He knows what you don’t, even when it feels like you’re alone.
Praise God for grief because it brings you closer to Him. God did not put you through torment so that you would lean on worldly comforts like couches and pillows; like social media and tv shows. God lets you feel grief so you learn how to share the burden with Him. In love and in anger.
Do you remember the first thing God says about creation?
“And it was good.”
And yeah, I guess that means pain is good too, doesn’t it?
Stay faithful, don’t stray from God. He wants you, and you need Him.
-Claudia.
Claudia, you are right. Let your tears fall. God is there to catch them and hold them, and you, close.
"You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” - Psalm 56:8
