Meet My People - Part Four: Kanon

ree

This may, sadly, be my last Meet My People post. I have, recently, had less time to write than I would have liked to, which means that I have had no time to move onto different story ideas and different characters. But! Good news: I finished grade 10 today, so I am super happy about that! I may only be five thousand words into Project Pure-Blood, but now my days will be free.

Also, I would like to say that there will be no post on May 31st. I will be busy at the Story Embers 2025 Online Summit. Thank you for your patience, my next post will be on June 7th, and I promise it will be my best one yet.

Introduction

Kanon is, in many ways, a lot like Carter. Now you might take into account the fact that they are both guys and they both have people they want to protect and call that good, but I think they're similar because they both get lost. And then they are, eventually, found again. This is a theme I see a lot in my stories. Kanon broke the mold a little, though, when I began diving a little deeper into who he was. I figured out that, yes, he is like Carter, but he does not get lost because of what happened to him when he was young. He becomes lost because that was the way things were supposed to be. He is the pure-blooded doom. He is the one who will bring destruction to human civilization and the one who, despite his greatest efforts, will fulfil everything ever said about him.

Part In The Story/Who Are They In The Novel?

Kanon is the...*clears throat* prophecy child that was said to be the end of all life on earth three generations ago. He is Zephyr's brother, a popular guy with lots of friends, though he's not as rebellious as Zephyr wants him to be. He's more of a main character than a side character. Actually, where I am in the first draft of Project Pure-Blood, I wrote a small section in his POV. I'm not sure if I want to keep it or not, but it's there for now. Goes to show that he's really not a lesser character. Kanon, actually, is one of the reasons the plot moves along in the first place. Yes, to all the writers out there, Zephyr does have agency and she does go do things, I promise. I didn't completely forget our main character.

Basic Appearances, Attitude, Character Traits, Personality, And More....

Kanon is a mix of many people whom have changed my life. He has this dark brown curly hair that goes down over his ears and these deep woody brown eyes. Not the forestry brown that I imagine for Robin, but a real deep brown. Not muddy, but almost black. He has a rounder face that Zephyr, but it's not round enough to be considered round. He also is only an inch or so taller than her. And he wears this smile all the time, always up to something, but it's not always bad. He has good morals, but also likes freedom. Personality? He's got almost as strong a will as Zephyr, but he's not quiet as dangerous. He's more philosophical than that. More of a scholar, less of a warrior. He likes to think, but doing things makes him happy too. AND HE'S A HUGGER!!!!!!!!

How Do They Interact With Other Characters?

He's probably the most inviting of all my characters. He's wary, yes, but he's not as defensive as Zephyr or as skeptical as Robin or as tense as Carter when he meets someone new. He'll invite them to be friends, but he's not going to tell them his social insurance number (which, I don't think any of my character would do that, but it was fun to write out. XD). He loves his family, but is also a lot more separated from them, and therefore has less of a love than Zephyr, which isn't always a bad thing.

Age

17

Home/Living Situation (Beginning VS. End)

Beginning: In the community's new home, living with his family in a tiny apartment

Middle: Out in the wild plains with the rebels (you get no further context)

End: Back in their community

Favorite Outfit And Favorite Food

Like everyone else in this world, he only wears his tech suit (which I need a new name for, if any of you have ideas!!!!). I don't know what else to say.

If he were a real human, he's probably like cereal.... A lot.

Character Arch

Kanon doesn't start out content, like most of my characters do. He starts out already burdened with the knowledge that he can do things no one else can. During the middle of the story, Kanon becomes the mad prophecy child. And at the end? At the end, he becomes okay again, better than he was at the start.

Biggest Winning Trait And Biggest Flex

He's very trusting and kind and careful and he listens to people when he they talk to him, which is more than can say for Zeph.

Does being the prophecy child count? I think it does. But, beyond that, it's probably the fact that he would eat cereal all day if he could.

Fun Fact

He’s been teaching himself to read. No one in their world is taught at school, so he is teaching himself to read so he can read all those old ledgers that contain some (but not all) answers to why he is what he is--which is the first way he finally understands he's the prophecy child.

What They Wanted To Be When They Grew Up VS. Who They Became

Kanon....I think he always knew that there was something wrong with him. And, once he realized he was the prophecy child, his life became secured. And...yeah. He didn't let his hopes go too far and, instead, stuck to the reality that he was going to be the cause of a lot of people's pain. He knew he was going to be the prophecy child, and that is what he became.

Hopes And Dreams

He wants to take over Theia’s (his mother) place in government (which, actually isn't possible because only a woman can inherit a woman's position on the counsel or board or whatever I want to call it) (but hey, it's fun to dream). He wants to whip some of those old people into shape and help their government turn from something weak into something worth while. He dreams of a free people and a better way to distribute tech (or, as I am now calling it, BioCharge) to those who are suffering.

How Easy Were They To Write On A Scale of One to Ten?

Unknown.

Hobbies

Thinking, reading, walking, learning. Reading will probably be his main hobby. Reading and trying to make Zephyr some friends (spoiler alert: Zephyr is really, really bad at making friends).

Random Cool Things They Can Do

KANON IS THE FREAKING PROPHECIED END OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION!!!!!!! HE PUTS THE REVOLUTION INTO MOTION AND STARTS THE RIOTS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY CREATE CHANGE!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SOME RANDOM COOL STUFF RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Conclusion

In some ways, I know Zephyr better than I know Kanon. That may be how it's supposed to be. I need to know who my main character is. And still, as I mature into my writing, I'm learning I also need to know who EVERYONE is because without them, we have no story. At all. Without Kanon, there is no plot.

I am proud of what I have gleaned out of my random notes to put into this doc for you. I am happy that this series has turned out to be fruitful. I am overjoyed that I now have another place to document what my characters are like and fangirl about them.

I am also thankful for you, dear reader. You have made my heart full this day.

To all the 'Unknown's: Once I finish the story and have a concrete idea what I can put here (theme song, famous quotes, ease-ability to write), I will edit this post and also do it on a Saturday so you will be notified!!! Cool!

Goodbye!
