Chasing Sunbeams: A Summer Blog Tag

Julie Yang at Moonlight Wanderer started a Summer Blog Tag Challenge (read all you need to know about the challenge (rules, questions, and how to answer them) on her post here!) and I had the honor of being tagged by Jonas Hanley on his blog, Inspiration Station (this post).

Here are my answers to Julie's ten questions.

I hope you feel more inspired about summer as you read along!

What's a book you read with summer vibes?

I can't say I've read a whole bunch of summer-themed books. If I'm honest, I read more sci-fi and thriller than the homey novel one would consider summer-themed. The closest I can get is The Otherworld by Abbie Emmons. It's a sweet romance novel set in summer, so I think it'll do.

If you could travel anywhere this summer, where would you go?

Either Ohio or Utah. I have a writing friend in Ohio that I really want to meet in person and Brandon Sanderson lives in Utah, so I figured I'd probably able to swing over and attend some event he's at that would be really cool.

What's a poem or quote that reminds you of summer?

I couldn't think of any quote or poem that reminded me of summer, but there's this song lyric that keeps flying around my head, going 'We're taking samples from lemonade stands, we find another route to the beach' from the song Little Fortune by Katie Lynne Sharbaugh. Those lyrics always remind me of summer.

Describe your favorite summer memory.

One of my favorites is horseback riding with my two sisters two or three years ago not half a mile down into the field our house overlooks and having a small picknick by a haybale. We wouldn't eat much, and the horses would always be in our faces, looking for treats. The blanket was a pain to tie up to the saddles. But it was a dream, and it was fun, every second of it.

Your ideal summer is filled with _______, _______, and _______.

Strawberries, Friends, and Rain.

What is your favorite summer food?

A lot of the foods I eat, I eat year-round. Except hotdogs on buns. Those I only eat in summer.

Favorite summer activities?

Weeding the garden (I know, can you believe it? It's questionable, but I really like the silence), reading in the sunlight (because, I mean, who reads outside when it's -40 C????), canoeing with my sister, and camping with friends.

How do you usually celebrate 4th of July?

I live in Canada, so we celebrate Canada Day on July 1st. Usually, I go sell flowers at a farmer's market with my mom. We don't do much special--and we live out of town so we don't see fireworks unless our farming neighbors set them off across the valley.

What's a song that reminds you of summer?

Valetta by Gabe Quinn. It's not so much that it talks about summer and sunshine, but I think it's they key, and the voice of the singer, because it reminds me of sunshine and summer more than most of the other songs in my summer playlist.

What are you most excited for this summer?

Planning for the future. I'm ready to make something of my life. I'm writing every day, trying to find something to focus on when I graduate, and raising enough money to be able to pay for it--whatever it is--myself.
